What we stand for
Five things we agree on before anyone joins us.
They are written down because they get tested on ordinary days, in small decisions that nobody else sees. They decide who we hire, who we work with, and what we walk away from.
Neutron Group/The Group
Neutron Group owns and grows companies in energy, investments and advisory. We take positions we intend to keep, and we stay long enough to see them mature.
How we started
Neutron Group began with a frustration that anyone who has tried to build something in Africa will recognise. The customers are there. The demand is there. What runs out is money and patience, usually at the same time, and usually just before the business would have worked.
So we decided to own businesses rather than trade them. We start a company, put money and people behind it, and then we stay. Some of ours took two full years to find their feet. We were still in the room when they did.
Africa is where we work. Nigeria is where we began, and Lagos is still home. The problems we solve here look very familiar in Accra, Nairobi and Abidjan, and we intend to be useful in those cities too.
We are in no hurry. Cooking gas, food, shelter and honest advice are not passing trends. They reward the owner who is still there in ten years, and that is the plan we made on the first day.

Where we operate
We would rather hold one market properly than plant a flag in five and serve none of them well.
All three companies trade here. Lagos holds our office, our people and the fleet behind Neutron Gas.
Households along the coast queue for the same cooking gas and wait for the same deliveries. It is the natural place for us to go next.
Retail and clean cooking are moving quickly there. We are learning the market before we commit money to it.
A group with the patience to stay ten years can afford to grow slowly and get each market right.
How the Group is put together
The Group does not run the companies day to day. That is the job of the people we hire to lead them. What the centre does is simpler: it decides where the money goes, helps appoint the boards, and asks the awkward questions early enough for them to be useful.
Each company keeps its own team, its own customers and its own plan. If one of them is struggling, we want to see it plainly rather than have it hidden inside a group total.
Leadership profiles are being finalised and will be published here shortly.
